Thread Lifting: Visibly lift skin from within
One of the aging signs is loose skin on the facial area. Although sagging skin is a natural part of aging we cannot avoid, getting rid of sagging skin is possible. Some people choose to get facelift surgery to achieve tighter and younger skin. But because of long recovery and high cost, people start to reconsider it. Thanks to anti-aging technology, you can achieve younger and tighter skin with thread lift procedure as a safer alternative to facelift surgery.
What is Thread Lift?
Thread lift is a minimally invasive treatment to treat sagging skin. The procedure is done by inserting a medical-grade thread into targeted skin and pulling up your skin by tightening the thread. Face Thread lift can also be used for facial reshaping, such as creating higher nose, lifting eyebrows, and contouring the cheekbones.
Depending on the function whether to lift saggy skin or to shape a particular facial area, the face threads come with different lengths and materials.
To create a high profile nose for example, you will need shorter threads. On the other hand, if you want to lift the skin on your lower face, you will need longer threads.
Thread lift has become a favorite treatment among those who desire a younger look without undergoing surgery. Compared to facelift surgery, this procedure is quicker, safer, and more affordable.
Which Areas Can be Done with Thread Lift?
Face and neck are the main areas to be done with thread lift procedure. Thread lift can have benefits on these areas:
- Cheek Thread Lift
This is the most common area treated. Due to aging, we start to lose volume within the face, especially the cheeks. As a result the cheeks become sagging and dropping. With the help of thread lift, sagging skin can be lifted and appear younger.
- Jowls Thread Lift
It is not only cheeks that lose fat volume as we age, so does jawline area. This is when thread lift can help to tighten your jowls.
- Eyebrow Thread Lift
You must be familiar with foxy eyes. To create this lifted effect, the threads are inserted from the upper eyebrow through the upper forehead.
- Neck Thread Lift
To smooth neck lines and lift loose skin on neck, thread lift is a good option to restore youthful appearance on neck threading.
- Nose Thread Lift
Nose thread lifts have become more popular nowadays. Compared to nose filler, nose thread lift is more effective to create a sharper nose because of its rigid material. It can also help the nose slimmer and straight.
Other than lifting the sagging skin and contouring some areas, thread lift can also eliminate wrinkles on the forehead, the lines between the eyebrows, and around the eyes.
How Does It Work?
The less production of collagen and elastin in our body is the main factor our skin loses its elasticity. Collagen and elastin are important proteins for our skin. Even though they are often mentioned together, they have different functions. Collagen has an essential role for skin’s structure and strength. On the other hand Elastin allows the skin to stretch and bounce back to its original form. Losing these two proteins makes our skin look saggy.
Thread face lift procedure is not a surgery. It does not surgically remove the sagging skin. It works by stitching and suspending portions of the loose skin, pulling back and lifting the skin. The thread under your skin not only helps to lift the saggy skin but also stimulates collagen production and restores skin elasticity.
Consultation with our doctors prior to the procedure is necessary to decide whether you are a good candidate for thread lift or not. Prior to the procedure anesthetic cream will be applied on the treated area. The procedure takes about 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the area.
What to Expect After Having Thread Lift Procedure?
Thread lift is a minimal invasive procedure. You can return to your normal activity after the treatment. You can see the result right away, however the maximum result will be visible after swelling and bruising gone. Swelling and bruising are normal and will be subsided in 1-2 weeks.
Thread lift is not like traditional facelift surgery. The result is less dramatic but more natural. For maximum results, it is recommended to combine it with dermal filler and botox. Read more about Dermal Filler here and Botox here.

Thread lift lasts for six months up to two years. It depends on the thread material type. The most common materials are Polydioxanone (PDO), Polycaprolactone (PCL), and Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA). All these types use biodegradable temporary sutures for lifting & tightening your skin.
PDO thread lift lasts for 6-12 months. The sutures dissolve after six months. However, the production of collagen in the treated skin will continue up to a year. Therefore even though the thread has dissolved into your body, you still be able to see the lifting effect. This process also occurs when you have PCL thread lift or PLLA thread lift, only with different lasting time.
PCL thread is the most durable. When you have PCL thread lift, the suture will dissolve within 1-2 years and the rejuvenating process can last up to 4-5 years. While PLLA thread will dissolve after 12 months and last up to 2 years.
The differences among them are their materials, how long they are absorbed by our body and how long they last.
PDO, PCL, and PLLA come with three pattern types with different use, Mono, Screw, and Cog. The most common types to be used are Mono and Cog. Mono thread is generally used for rejuvenating the skin. It works by stimulating collagen production on the treated area, but not to lift the sagging skin. On the other hand, Cog thread is used to lift the loose skin. After inserted into the skin, the thread will be pulled back to lift the skin. Compared to Mono thread, Cog thread is bigger and more rigid. This type of thread is not only suitable for lifting the sagging skin, but also creating a higher nose, foxy eyes, and v-shape facial contour, make it the most common pattern type used.
For those who do not want to consider thread lift procedures, Exilis Ultra 360 and MMFU are great options to prevent sagging skin. Exilis Ultra 360 uses Radio Frequency technology that helps to rejuvenate and tighten the skin. You can read more about Exilis Ultra 360.

For nose thread lift and eyebrow lift which use shorter threads, the cost starts from IDR 3,900,000 (USD 260).
On the other hand, a face or neck thread lift will cost you starting from IDR 3,200,000 (USD 214). A consultation prior to the treatment is necessary to discuss further the most suitable thread and how many threads you need to achieve your desired result.
